Unlikely Departure: Arsenal and Liverpool Pursuit of Aurelien Tchouameni Faces Hurdles at Real Madrid

Arsenal and Liverpool target not in favour of a move to the Premier League

Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has been linked with a move away from the Spanish club in recent months. The 24-year-old defensive midfielder has had a mixed spell since his move to La Liga. While there is no doubt that he has shown his world-class potential at times, he will need to add more consistency to his game.

There have been speculations surrounding his long-term future at the club, but Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed in his Here We Go podcast that a move away from Real Madrid is not on the cards any time soon. Romano also revealed that the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with the player, but a move to the Premier League is certainly not on the horizon.

He said: “We saw these rumours in England and we keep receiving many questions on Tchouameni because the summer transfer window just closed. Many people raised rumours about Liverpool, Arsenal, Tchouameni in 2025.

“I wanted to clarify something for 2024, 2025, 2026, whenever. The intention of Aurelien Tchouameni is to stay in Real Madrid. The intention of Real Madrid is to keep Aurelien Tchouameni as a crucial player for that project. For present and future. They are in love with Tchouameni; with the player, with the professional.

“How he acted in the centre-back position was something really appreciated by the technical staff at Real Madrid. So it’s absolutely not even considered for Real Madrid to sell Aurelien Tchouameni. The situation is perfect between the club and player.

“I can guarantee at the moment, despite all the rumours, we know how many clubs can appreciate a top player like Tchouameni… but in terms of concrete possibilities for him to leave Madrid – at the moment, zero.”

Liverpool and Arsenal need Aurelien Tchouameni Liverpool could certainly use a top-class defensive midfielder and they tried to sign the French international before his move to Real Madrid. There is no doubt that the 24 year-old would have been an exceptional acquisition for them and he could have completed their midfield unit for the foreseeable future.

At Arsenal, he could have been the ideal partner for Declan Rice. Apart from his ability to shield the back four and win the ball back for his side, he is an exceptional passer from the deep and he would have added a new dimension to the Arsenal midfield.

Tchouameni has all the attributes to develop into a world-class midfielder, and it remains to be seen whether he can iron out the inconsistencies from his game and fulfil his tremendous potential at Real Madrid. The Spanish giants will be hoping to push for major trophies every season and they will not want to lose an elite talent like him any time soon. The midfielder has helped them win major trophies during his time at the club, including the La Liga title last season.
