Update: Mets Provide Encouraging News on Edwin Diaz’s Injury

Back on May 29, the New York Mets made a decision regarding their closer, Edwin Diaz.

He had struggled for a few games leading to that date, even blowing a few save chances in the process.

The team placed him on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement.

That could have been the main reason behind his struggles, so the All-Star closer was granted some time to rest and try to figure out what was wrong.

After all, he had a 5.40 ERA in 20 innings.

Considering his 3.05 career mark and his 1.31 ERA in his last fully healthy season, everybody knows he is capable of much more.

After the minimum stay on the injured list, Diaz is back ready to help the Mets secure some wins.

“RHP Edwin Díaz has been reinstated from the 15-Day IL. LHP Danny Young was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse following last night’s game,” the Mets announced on Thursday afternoon.

Diaz has five saves this season, but he has also blown four other chances.

That is an uncharacteristically high ratio for one of the safest closers in the game.

Manager Carlos Mendoza made it clear: Diaz will jump right back into the closer role, so there won’t be an easing in process.

The skipper is giving him the confidence by trusting him in tight spots immediately after his arrival.

New York is 29-37, but the season is still young and they have a chance to jump back into the race for one of the Wild Card spots if they play their cards right and, of course, if Diaz is healthy and locked in.
