Update on Kristaps Porzingis’ Injury Provided by Celtics

Boston big man Kristaps Porzingis suffered a concerning non-contact injury in Monday’s Game 4 and C’s coach Joe Mazzulla has provided an update on his injury.

Porzingis exited late in the second quarter of Game 4 against Miami and the team called the injury right calf tightness.

Tightness is a far better outcome than an Achilles injury, which was a major concern when he initially left the court.

Mazzulla confirmed Wednesday that Porzingis will be sidelined for at least a week, but was fairly light on the details.

“I don’t know the specifics of it; they use a lot of fancy words. But I do know it will be re-evaluated next week,” Mazzulla said Wednesday of Porzingis’ injury during an interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub radio show. “We’ll see how he responds to the treatment and how much better he gets here in the first week. That’s kind of the goal is to rehab it like crazy over the next week and see where we’re at from there.”

NBA insider Chris Haynes was reporting from The Garden on Wednesday and said that Porzingis is likely to miss the Celtics’ second-round series.

But the hope is that he will be back for the Eastern Conference Finals if the Celtics were to advance.

The Athletic‘s Shams Charania also provided an update on Porzingis on Wednesday morning and said his injury is being treated as a “week-to-week” issue.

“It could be one to two weeks for Kristaps Porzingis. It could be even longer than that based on his rehab,” Charania said on Run It Back.

Given Porzingis’ lengthy injury history, it would be wise for the Celtics not to rush him back.
