Update on the Collaboration between Ice Hockey UK and the Scottish Ice Hockey Association

IHUK & SIH UPDATE ON COLLABORATION

Ice Hockey UK (IHUK) and Scottish Ice Hockey (SIH) are pleased to provide an update on their ongoing relationship and collaborative efforts to enhance the sport across Scotland and the UK.

In late 2023, Jamie Thomson, SIH Head of Hockey Operations, joined IHUK’s Board of Directors as the SIH representative.

This integration has facilitated a closer working relationship, with both organisations focused on aligning their performance pathways to create a more cohesive structure for athlete development.

Under the leadership of Ice Hockey UK’s Head of Performance, Andrew Partridge, IHUK and SIH have made significant strides toward ensuring that athletes from Scotland have increased visibility, opportunity, and representation within Great Britain squads.

Additionally, IHUK is providing support to SIH in updating their governance framework, ensuring that both organisations operate with best practices in mind.

Together, they are developing a comprehensive strategy aimed at creating more opportunities for athletes in Scotland and Northern Ireland, including potential collaborations with Sport Scotland in the near future.

SIH Chair, John Colley, said: “This collaboration is a significant step forward for Scottish athletes. By aligning our efforts with the SIH National Development Programme, we are clearly defining the route to GB whilst ensuring greater recognition and support for our players on the international stage.

“Our commitment to developing homegrown talent is stronger than ever and we are excited about the opportunities this partnership will unlock.”

IHUK CEO, Henry Staelens, said: “It is critical that we continue to build our working relationship with Scottish Ice Hockey.

“They have some really exciting athletes and coaches that are having – and will have – significant impact on the GB Programme over the coming years.

“We will continue to support their coaching and performance efforts, as well as their evolving governance ambitions.”

As both organisations continue to work together, we are optimistic about the positive impact this collaboration will have on the future of ice hockey in the UK, ensuring that athletes receive the support they need to excel both domestically and internationally.
