LANDOVER, MD — The U.S. men’s national team faced Colombia in a friendly on Saturday with many questions surrounding their performance against a formidable opponent. Colombia, in great form with a 22-game unbeaten streak, proved to be a tough test while the U.S. team struggled to match their level.
In the early stages of the match, Colombia found the net twice to take a commanding lead. Despite Tim Weah’s goal in the 58th minute to make it 2-1, Colombia’s late surge resulted in a 5-1 victory at Commanders Field.
Colombia opened the scoring in the sixth minute through Jhon Arias, capitalizing on a defensive error by Antonee Robinson. Rafael Borre extended the lead with a spectacular bicycle kick in the 19th minute.
Christian Pulisic was substituted at halftime after a quiet performance, giving way for Haji Wright to make an impact. Weah’s goal offered a glimmer of hope for the U.S. team, but Colombia quickly responded with goals from Luis Sinisterra and Richard Rios to seal the win.
The USMNT will face Brazil in their final tune-up match before the Copa America, looking to improve their performance ahead of the tournament opener against Bolivia on June 23.
