Valencia make £25 million bid for Mason Greenwood - Man United News And Transfer News

Mason Greenwood is not short of suitors as his Manchester United career draws to an almost inevitable close.

Various reports in recent days have linked the 22-year-old with a move to Juventus, with some suggesting he has given his approval to the project, while others claim that Juventus have made or are preparing to make a €40 million bid.

However, The Mirror reports that while Juventus are considering a bid worth £40 million with add-ons, Greenwood is not interested and is eager to stay in Spain.

The outlet states that Valencia has made a £25 million bid for the academy graduate, and even though Juventus’ bid is closer to United’s valuation, a source close to Greenwood’s camp has confirmed Valencia’s concrete offer and stated that his priority is Spain after a loan spell with Getafe.

The report also mentions that Napoli have engaged in talks with United for a potential deal, and both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid remain interested.

While there may be some truth to the above, it is quite a stretch to believe it as a complete package of information.

First, Juventus can offer Champions League football and a likely higher salary than Valencia, providing a stronger platform for a player aspiring to reach the top of the game. The reports suggesting his approval for the Juventus deal seem plausible.

Second, the claim of Juventus offering or planning to offer £40 million has been contradicted by the Italian media, who mostly agree that Juventus need to sell before buying. Additionally, reports from Italy indicate that Juventus consider the player overpriced at €40 million, let alone £40 million.

Third, the claim of Valencia’s bid has no backing from the Spanish media, with no indication in the Valencia specialist paper Superdeporte that they are pursuing Greenwood. This lack of coverage in the Spanish press would be unusual if there was truth to the rumor.

Where Greenwood plays next season is uncertain, but it is improbable to be Getafe, who reportedly want to loan him again.

Another season-long loan would bring Greenwood to the end of his contract at United, leaving the club with no chance to generate income from his sale and making a return to United unlikely due to the complications arising from his 2022 arrest for attempted rape and aggravated assault.
