Valerie Camillo Named Successor to Steve Simon as WTA Chair in St. Petersburg, Florida

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has announced that Valerie Camillo will succeed Steve Simon as the Chair of the WTA Tour and WTA Ventures, beginning her tenure on November 17, 2025. This marks a significant transition for the organization as it seeks to capitalize on new opportunities in the realm of professional women’s tennis.

In her first comments following the announcement, Camillo expressed her excitement about leading the charge during such a crucial era for women’s tennis. “Women’s tennis is not merely a spectacle; it is an integral part of many lives globally. I am eager to work alongside our athletes, tournament organizers, and the entire WTA team to nurture the sport’s development while ensuring it remains a beacon for women’s empowerment,” she stated.

Camillo will work closely with the WTA Board to implement long-term strategies designed to foster growth across all aspects of the game, from player experience to fan engagement. With over 50 tournaments held on six continents, the WTA boasts a viewership exceeding one billion. It is imperative that women’s tennis continues to evolve as a central pillar of the overall sports industry.

The decision to appoint Camillo was made following a thorough international search, which included a diverse array of candidates from both the sports and business sectors. The outgoing Chair, Steve Simon, played an integral role in the selection process, which was facilitated by Elevate Talent.

Camillo brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously held prominent positions within major sports networks and teams, including the Philadelphia Flyers and the Washington Nationals. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a talent for operational leadership and strategic growth, successfully overseeing over 1,000 live sporting events and modernizing operations for professional franchises.

Steve Simon, who will retire after a decade at the WTA’s helm, praised Camillo’s extensive background in sports management. “I am thrilled to welcome Valerie as my successor. Her leadership skills and her vast experience in the sports industry are exactly what the WTA needs at this transformative juncture,” he commented.

Tennis legend Billie Jean King also expressed her support for Camillo, emphasizing the importance of her appointment. “Valerie is a proven leader who not only understands the nuances of the business but also possesses deep passion for the game. Her fresh perspective will be pivotal for the WTA’s journey forward,” she remarked.

As the WTA steps into the future, Camillo’s leadership is expected to invigorate the organization, maintaining its status at the forefront of women’s professional sports while championing inclusive practices and innovation. The new Chair will endeavor to build upon the solid foundation laid by Simon and his predecessor, ushering in a new chapter for women’s tennis that continues to inspire athletes and fans alike.
