What to Know
We’ve got another exciting Atlantic 10 matchup on schedule as the Dayton Flyers and the VCU Rams are set to tip at 7:00 p.m. ET on February 9th at Stuart Siegel Center. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
The matchup between Dayton and the Hawks on Tuesday hardly resembled the 60-54 effort from their previous meeting. The Flyers enjoyed a cozy 94-79 victory over the Hawks. The win was nothing new for Dayton as they’re now sitting on three straight.
Dayton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nate Santos out in front who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kobe Elvis, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten assists.
Meanwhile, the Rams didn’t have too much trouble with the Rams on the road on Tuesday as they won 75-60. The win made it back-to-back wins for VCU.
Max Shulga was the offensive standout of the matchup as he dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Joe Bamisile was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two blocks.
The Flyers are on a roll lately: they’ve won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. As for the Rams, their victory bumped their record up to 15-8.
Friday’s contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Dayton have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 39.5% of their threes per game. However, it’s not like VCU struggles in that department as they’ve made 36.9% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it’ll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Dayton came up short against the Rams in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, falling 68-56. Can Dayton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We’ll find out soon enough.
