The Minnesota Vikings have themselves a very interesting quarterback situation underway this summer.
They signed veteran Sam Darnold to a one-year deal earlier this offseason to be a possible bridge quarterback to future starter J.J. McCarthy.
McCarthy was drafted with the No. 10 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft and is slated to be the future in the Twin Cities.
But after seeing some of the plays that Darnold is making in practice, he could be the starter for a bit.
One recent throw to the newly-paid Justin Jefferson has people believing that Darnold can start and win games for this team (via Dov Kleiman).

Keep in mind that the 27-year-old in Darnold has plenty of starting experience in the league.
The former first-round draft pick has started 56 games in six years for three different teams.
Most notably, he started 38 games for the New York Jets between 2018 and 2020.
He has a career record of 21-35 and has thrown 63 touchdowns, along with 56 interceptions.
Who knows if he could become something with this team, but he certainly can help give McCarthy more time to get his NFL legs under him.
Things could change if the Vikings are 4-0 or 5-1 in October.
Maybe the former USC star decides to not give up the starting job so easily.
But in the end, the Vikings have their options at quarterback.
That is for certain.
They also have another veteran quarterback in Nick Mullens on the roster, who has played in 29 career games across his soon-to-be six-year career.
Head coach Kevin O’Connell definitely has his options for sure.
