The Vikings’ offseason moves may not have turned many heads outside their organization, with some even predicting a last-place finish in their division.

But the new additions are proving their worth, and the return of familiar faces is breathing fresh life into the team’s 5-0 start.

In a surprising move, the Vikings and Texans have orchestrated a significant trade, as reported by NFL Insider Ari Meirov.

This acquisition bolsters Minnesota’s running back depth, providing support for Aaron Jones.

The 29-year-old Jones, who joined from the Packers, has been dealing with a hip injury since Week 5 against the Jets.

While Jones has impressed with 350 yards and a touchdown in five games, his recent injury has raised concerns.

Akers, who spent time with the Vikings in 2023, is no stranger to the team. During his previous stint, he accumulated 138 yards and a touchdown in six games.

His return comes at an opportune time, offering veteran support as Jones works towards a potential return this Sunday.

The move reunites Akers with Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, who served as his offensive coordinator during their time with the Rams in 2020 and 2021.

This existing relationship could prove valuable as Akers integrates into a backfield that includes Ty Chandler and Myles Gaskin.

As the Vikings continue their impressive start to the season, the addition of Akers adds another layer of intrigue.
