The Minnesota Vikings, fresh off a blowout win against the New York Giants in Week 1, have a big game coming up against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2.
However, they will be without one of their top wide receivers for that contest.
Second-year receiver Jordan Addison has been ruled out due to an ankle injury, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.
As the 49ers showed in their dominant win against the New York Jets on “Monday Night Football,” they are one of the league’s best teams.
That is why the Vikings could have their hands full, and now that Addison is out, the task just got a little tougher.
Two of Minnesota’s four best skill-position players — Addison and Pro Bowl tight end T.J. Hockenson — are now unavailable.
That means starting quarterback Sam Darnold is going to have to utilize Pro Bowl running back Aaron Jones and All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson in big ways.
Darnold played for the 49ers last season, so he also is going to have to draw on that experience to help him out.
He did play well in his first start for the Vikings, with only five incompletions on 24 attempts, and that is what is going to have to happen again this week.
Jones had almost 110 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in Week 1, which was great, but Jefferson had only four receptions.
Both players are going to have to be even better if Minnesota has a chance at upsetting the defending NFC champions.
