Marco Reus Encourages Jadon Sancho to Return to Borussia Dortmund
Former captain of Borussia Dortmund, Marco Reus, has encouraged Jadon Sancho to consider a move back to the Westfalenstadion instead of making a permanent switch to the Premier League.
Sancho, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa for the season from Manchester United, is facing a crucial summer as his contract with United nears its end.
Despite demonstrating moments of brilliance under manager Unai Emery, Sancho’s form has been inconsistent in the Midlands, with only one goal and three assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.
Reus has expressed support for Sancho to return to Dortmund, suggesting it would be beneficial for the winger’s career with his contract expiring soon at Manchester United.
Reus’s Insights on Sancho’s Future
In an interview with the German publication Bild, Reus, who developed a strong partnership with Sancho between 2017 and 2021, emphasized the importance of finding a place where Sancho feels comfortable over purely financial considerations.
He stated, “My advice to Jadon is to seek an environment where he can feel at home again and rediscover his game. If that place is BVB, it would be beneficial for both him and the club. He understands what the game requires.”
Reus went on to commend Sancho, noting, “I have rarely played alongside someone who instinctively makes such intelligent decisions in tight situations. Even if he was quiet at times, he still exuded positivity.”
Reus continued, “Beyond his assists and goals, he is aware of the needs of the game and his teammates. He attracts multiple defenders and knows when to involve others at the right moments.”
Dortmund’s Interest in Reuniting with Sancho
On the flip side, it has been reported that Borussia Dortmund is also interested in re-signing Sancho for a third spell, though any potential deal would likely come with specific conditions.
Sancho’s most successful period came while playing for the German side, where he netted 53 goals and provided 67 assists in 158 matches across all competitions.
He has struggled to maintain that level of performance in the Premier League with three different clubs—Chelsea, Manchester United, and Aston Villa.
While Villa has not entirely ruled out a permanent transfer, a return to Germany might present the best opportunity for Sancho to revitalize his career.
