Washington, DC to host USWNT for Olympic send-off match

USWNT to play Olympic send-off match in Washington, DC


The United States Women’s National Team will play in the nation’s capital before heading to represent the nation in France. Today, U.S. Soccer announced that the USWNT will face Costa Rica in a friendly on July 16th at Audi Field in Washington, DC. It will be the final match before the team heads to the Olympics in Paris. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm ET and will be broadcast on TNT, TruTV, Universo, Max, and Peacock.

The USWNT will play a few days before against Mexico at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, giving head coach Emma Hayes a total of 4 matches to prepare the team for the Olympics. The roster for this match will be the roster that heads to represent the United States in France.

This will be the first match for the USWNT in DC since September 2022, when they beat Nigeria 2-1 in their only previous match at Audi Field. They played 10 times at RFK Stadium from 1995-2017. In Costa Rica, this will be the 18th time they face Las Ticas. The USWNT has won the previous 17 matchups, with the most recent coming in the 2022 Concacaf W Championship quarterfinals. Now, they will face the 2023 Women’s World Cup participants before they go for gold.
