West Ham and Man United in Transfer Battle for Jean-Clair Todibo: Second Bid Considered After Initial Offer Rejected

Jean-Clair Todibo: West Ham considering second bid for Man United target after rejection of first offer - Man United News And Transfer News

West Ham United are reportedly considering tabling a second bid for OGC Nice star and Manchester United defensive target Jean-Clair Todibo.

United have been interested in Todibo since last summer when a transfer failed to get over the line, partially due to the collapse of Harry Maguire’s proposed switch to West Ham.

United continued to keep tabs on Todibo with the club keen on swooping in for him in the ongoing window as part of their efforts to rejuvenate Erik ten Hag’s backline.

However, the Red Devils were stopped in their tracks by UEFA, who ruled that the club could not sign the Frenchman, due to conflict brought about by multi-club ownership rules.

United’s new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is of course a majority shareholder of Nice – the club that employs Todibo.

It’s understood that INEOS have not given up on their desire to bring Todibo to Old Trafford. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the petrochemicals firm was set to mount a legal challenge to UEFA’s regulation.

INEOS have hired Swiss lawyer Gianpaolo Monteneri to plead their case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport. If successful, Todibo would be allowed to complete a switch to United.

While the 20-time English champions wait to find out CAS’ decision, their rivals are making plans to pip them to Todibo.

According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, West Ham in particular want to make the 24-year-old the latest addition to their ranks at the London Stadium.

Plettenberg wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Understand that West Ham now trying to sign Jean-Clair Todibo!”

“But the 24 y/o central defender from Nice will become very expensive. First bid of €35m was rejected as per L’Equipe and confirmed.”

“A new offer is possible as West Ham has not yet left the race for the former top target of Man Utd.”

In addition to West Ham and United, other teams that Todibo has been linked to include Aston Villa and La Liga giants Atletico Madrid
