As the January transfer window approaches, Nuno Espirito Santo is reviewing his squad. The midfield has become a particular area of concern for the manager, leading to a significant change in Soucek’s status within the team.
West Ham secured a commendable 1-1 draw against Brighton on Sunday, a result that many had anticipated would be unfavorable for them. However, the team’s defensive and midfield effort laid the groundwork for a solid display.
Tomas Soucek’s Position at West Ham Dwindles

According to reports from Hammers News, Soucek was anticipated to be a starter after Nuno chose to leave Freddie Potts and Soungoutou Magassa on the bench. Instead, Guido Rodriguez, who had previously been sidelined, earned a place in the starting lineup, signaling a shift in the Czech Republic international’s standing at the club.
Currently, Soucek is viewed as the fifth or sixth option for the defensive midfielder position, which implies a limited future at West Ham. This situation may facilitate a transfer in January, particularly appealing to Everton, where David Moyes is interested in reuniting with the 30-year-old.
Is it Time for West Ham to Part Ways with Tomas Soucek?
Since his arrival from Slavia Prague in 2020, Soucek has been a robust contributor for West Ham, making 245 appearances. However, given the current trajectory, he may find it challenging to add to that total. The recent match against Brighton has reinforced the notion that he is not part of Nuno’s plans, leading many to believe that a transfer in January could be the best outcome for both the player and the club.
