Manchester United are looking to improve their full-back options after struggling last season due to a combination of injuries and poor form.
With Luke Shaw missing 36 games last term and Tyrell Malacia being out for the whole campaign, Erik ten Hag was forced to play defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and centre-back Victor Lindelof in that position.
Even right-backs Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka played there on an alternate basis and the club is looking to address the situation.
The former Palace star’s form nosedived last season, partly due to recurrent injuries, and the Dutch boss is open to bringing in someone new.
Full-back crisis
United did trigger the one-year extension option in the 26-year-old’s contract but that was mainly done to maintain his market value.
If the Englishman is indeed sold, the Red Devils would need a versatile option capable of playing on either flank to replace him.
The Peoples Person has relayed that the 20-time English league champions are looking at Noussair Mazraoui while there is plenty of interest from fellow Premier League clubs West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.
The 26-year-old can play on both flanks and having worked with Ten Hag before, he knows what to expect and his arrival could also play a huge role in getting United to play a more attractive style of play with the Moroccan much more adept at going forward.
Bild (via Fussball Transfers) have claimed that the Hammers are looking at an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy for €20 million plus five million in bonuses.
West Ham’s stance could help United
The Bavarians would prefer a permanent exit for the Moroccan and the London team’s stance could end up helping the Old Trafford side who remain open to buying the former Ajax star outright.
The only problem is that for them to afford Ten Hag’s former protege, Wan-Bissaka needs to be sold and West Ham are one of the clubs looking at the United full-back.
A move for the Morocco international depends on whether the Hammers return for Wan-Bissaka or if someone else comes up with the money.
Bayern had brought Mazraoui to the Bundesliga on a free and are set for a big profit if they can offload him. Their transfer business also hinges on player sales with Matthijs de Ligt another target for United.
