West Ham Lacked a Striker Like Calvert-Lewin
Since his move to Leeds United, Calvert-Lewin has demonstrated his capabilities, scoring 10 Premier League goals this season. West Ham could have significantly benefited from his skill set, especially given their current struggles in front of the goal.
According to an insider from the club, Potter actively prevented the acquisition of a forward during his tenure.
“We deeply regret not signing Calvert-Lewin, particularly as he was available on a free transfer,” a senior representative of West Ham’s ownership remarked to Hammers News. “However, Potter was adamant about not needing a forward and prohibited us from making the signing.”
“When Nuno joined, he quickly recognized the need for two strikers, which has made a significant difference for us.”
Calvert-Lewin Was a Wise Choice

It’s clear that acquiring the former Everton forward would have been a savvy move for West Ham. Bringing in such talent on a free transfer seemed like a straightforward decision.
With Nuno Espirito Santo recognizing the urgency for scoring options upon his arrival, West Ham successfully added Taty Castellanos and Pablo during the January window. Their current position in the Premier League is precarious, and securing a quality striker earlier in the season could have potentially changed their fate.
