According to reports, Tim Steidten oversaw all of West Ham United’s summer signings except for Crysencio Summerville.
The Hammers went on a spending spree to support new manager Julen Lopetegui, bringing in players like Niclas Fullkrug, Max Kilman, Guido Rodriguez, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Summerville, who was signed from Leeds at the beginning of August for a reported fee of £25m plus add-ons, was not part of Steidten’s decisions (per BBC Sport).
However, Sean Whetstone, reporting through his West Ham Football X account, revealed that Steidten was not the mastermind behind Summerville’s acquisition.
Summerville’s quiet start at West Ham

Summerville had an impressive 2023/24 season with Leeds, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists in 46 Championship and playoff matches, along with a goal and assist in the FA Cup.
As a 37-time international at various youth levels for the Netherlands, the 22-year-old’s talent is undeniable.
Despite his potential, Summerville has struggled to adapt to life at the London Stadium, failing to make an impact in any of his five appearances for West Ham across all competitions so far.
In the Premier League this season, Summerville has only created two chances in 120 minutes of play, with defenders like Wan-Bissaka (5), Kilman (4), and Emerson (4) outperforming him.
Summerville has also attempted just one shot, resulting in a disappointing 0.06 xG.
It’s early days for Summerville, but with West Ham only winning one of their five games under Lopetegui so far, the winger is among several players in claret and blue who need to step up their performance.
