The U.S. men’s national team originally looked set to be without star midfielders Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams for March’s CONCACAF Nations League schedule, but now could very well have both at their disposal after all.
McKennie and Adams are making progress ahead of the upcoming tournament Final Four, which is slated to begin on March 21 and conclude March 24. McKennie, who suffered a dislocated shoulder in February, returned to Juventus training on Friday ahead of Sunday’s Serie A clash with Atalanta.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season in Turin and could return to action as early as this weekend. McKennie has earned 49 caps to date for the USMNT, scoring 11 goals and being part of both of their Nations League title triumphs in 2021 and 2023.
Adams, 25, featured for Bournemouth’s developmental squad on Tuesday in a 5-0 win over Colchester United. After re-aggravating a hamstring issue last October, Adams was forced back to the sidelines for the past five months.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola might not risk Adams in Saturday’s Premier League match vs. Sheffield United but admitted he could return to the bench after making progress this week.
“I don’t think we will recover anyone ahead of the weekend but while Tyler Adams is not still fully ready, he played 30 minutes with development squad this week,” Iraola told reporters Friday.
“He’s feeling well in the process, we could put him on the bench because we have spaces for him,” Iraola added. “Personally it may be a good thing but he’s continuing his process and still lacks more training. But he’s doing well.”
Adams was part of the 2019-20 Nations League squad and to date has made 36 appearances for the USMNT.
The Americans host Jamaica in Arlington, Texas on March 21, with the winner facing either Mexico or Panama just three days later.
