Tiger Woods Schedule 2023

It was earlier than expected but Tiger Woods broke the internet once again with a huge announcement concerning his career on the PGA Tour. “I’m ready to play an ACTUAL PGA Tour event next week,” Woods tweeted during the 2023 WM Phoenix Open, referring to the Genesis Invitational. Forget the hit and giggles, he wanted competitive action – and Riviera would be his first outing since The Open in 2022.

It was Woods’ first start at a non-major tour event since the final round of the 2020 ZOZO Championship, and the 15-time major champion – who has never won the Genesis – carded rounds of 69, 74, 67 and 73 to finish in a tie for 45th at 1-under. Afterwards, he was asked about where he would play next and he said he would mainly focus on playing in all four majors.

After braving the first two rounds and making the cut at Augusta National, Woods withdrew with an injury during the third round as he trudged through the wind and rain. On April 19, he underwent surgery in New York to address post-traumatic arthritis from his previous talus fracture. This ruled him out of the rest of the 2023 schedule, including The Open Championship at Hoylake where he won the Claret Jug in 2006.

This begged the question: Will Tiger go on and attempt to return to competitive action once again, while still suffering from the injuries he sustained in a car crash in 2021?

Since the 2023 Masters, TGL Golf has been drip-feeding its team names and format features to golf fans, but after damage was caused to the dame of the custom-built arena, Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new tech-infused league was pushed back to 2025. However, Woods announced he would play in the Hero World Challenge at the end of November, the tournament he hosts in the Bahamas. This announcement followed various videos posted of him caddying for his son Charlie at junior golf events in Florida. Woods finished 18th in the field of 20 players and he and Charlie went on to finish in a tie for 5th at the PNC Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando. The pair have become regular features of the family-based PGA Tour event in December.

2024

At the Hero World Challenge, Woods said he would aim to play once a month on the PGA Tour, starting at the Genesis Invitational. “I think the best scenario would be a tournament a month. I think that’s realistic,” he said. “Whether that is – maybe you’d have to start with the Genesis and then play something in March – maybe The Players, and again, we have a set-up right now where the biggest events are once per month. “I need to get myself ready for all of that and I think this week is a big step in that direction.

On Monday before the 2024 renewal of this event, Woods and TaylorMade unveiled the new Sun Day Red apparel and footwear brand.

Exemptions

The Masters and PGA Championship offer lifetime exemption to champions, while The Open is up to the age of 60. Woods’ 10-year US Open exemption ran out in 2018, but his victory at Augusta in 2019 earned him another five. But now, Woods is no longer exempt for the US Open and it is the first major he won’t automatically qualify for since 1996.
