Tim Boyle won’t be spending Black Friday 2023 fighting for a smart TV or video game console at an electronics store. Instead, the NFL journeyman quarterback managed to fight his way to a starting position with the New York Jets.
Boyle has worked his way up the roster on a team that originally lured in Super Bowl-winner Aaron Rodgers and then had past No. 2 overall pick Zack Wilson handling the reins before being benched. But before the starting debut of his ’23 season comes on the day after Thanksgiving, what were the other NFL addresses attached to Boyle before he became QB1 for the holidays?
Teams Tim Boyle Suited Up For
Long story short, outside of the Jets, Boyle suited up for everyone in the NFC North except for the Minnesota Vikings.
And it all began in Wisconsin for the Hartford, Conn., native.

Boyle went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft but was picked up by the Green Bay Packers that May. That was during a time when Rodgers was still the franchise quarterback. He eventually impressed the Packers enough to become the third QB behind Rodgers and his backup DeShone Kizer.
But Boyle didn’t see much action behind center for the Packers. He took three straight knees during an Oct. 2019 game versus the Oakland Raiders. He managed to get more action on Nov. 24, 2019, in a more one-sided loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He ended up going 3-of-4 passing for just 15 yards that day.
He left the Packers as an unrestricted free agent after the 2020 season. He eventually signed with the Detroit Lions on March 22, 2021. He went on to start in three games that season.
In his NFL debut, he was limited to 77 yards in the 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns. He didn’t start again until Dec. 26, as he faced the Atlanta Falcons. He went 24-of-34 passing for 187 yards in the 20-16 loss. Boyle was given one more start the following week. But that ended in a 51-29 Seattle Seahawks romp, as Boyle settled for 22-of-37 passing for 262 yards.
Boyle tossed three touchdowns with six interceptions. In 2022, he spent most of the season on the practice squad before landing with the Chicago Bears in November.
He’s been with the Jets since April 6, 2023, as he signed a free-agent deal before being added to the practice squad. Now, he’s gone from undrafted to the practice squad to handling the reins for a team once all in on Rodgers and Wilson.
How Confident is Boyle Ahead of 2023 Debut?

That’s exactly what Boyle has to do on the day after Thanksgiving.
But how confident is the journeyman passer before he takes on an aspiring Super Bowl team? Speaking with reporters on Tuesday ahead of the rare Friday showdown, Boyle shared where his confidence level is.
“I am right where I should be right now. I believe in myself, and other teams have believed in me, and that is truthfully all that matters,” Boyle told New York reporters. “Accountability is No. 1 at quarterback, and I didn’t play well in college, but here I am in Year 6 in the NFL.”
As for what elements he brings to the Jets offense, Boyle gave this short scouting report on himself.
“I feel like I have enough,” Boyle said. “I can get the ball out on time and make all the throws. I can see [from] the pocket and be a good quarterback for this team. So that is what I intend to do.”
The Jets will need those traits from him as they turn to their third QB option this season, all in an effort to keep their slim playoff hopes alive at 4-6 overall.
