What you need to know about the new Cleveland RTX Full-Face 2 wedges

Cleveland RTX Full-Face 2 wedges

Cleveland’s expanding range of wedges are not to be slept on as options for players of all skill levels.

There isn’t really any suggestion that the Cleveland RTX Full-Face 2 wedges are a giant leap forward for a company with a growing footprint in the market.

However, in a sport with margins as fine as golf, any advance or innovation is worth giving a second look.

Cleveland RTX Full-Face 2 wedges aren’t a massive departure from the market standard for such clubs with grooves across the entire face of the club from the heel of the hosel to the tip of the toe.

The motivation behind the innovation is to offer the user greater versatility in shotmaking.

Why full-face?

You add a lot of loft to a wedge when you open the face, whether it’s for a flop shot, a delicate pitch, or a chip to a tight pin spot.

Additionally, the swing force impact dynamics are directed towards the toe of the club. Greater groove area on the face of the club translates into greater spin and therefore options for shotmaking.

The new offerings have roughly 700 square millimetres (about one square inch) more face area than Cleveland’s RTX 6 wedges according to equipment experts My Golf Spy. The testers also cite an additional 34% more contact area as a feature of the Cleveland RTX Full-Face 2 wedges.

What does all the tech on these wedges do?

The potential for greater spin does not come at the cost of forgiveness with the latest edition of full-face wedges sporting a 13% boost in MOI when contrasted with the original RTX full-face offering from Cleveland.

Cleveland promise their full-face grooves are designed to help ‘silence your inner naysayer and unleash your inner shotmaker.’

Now that may sound like a bold piece of marketing but they also make the claim: “With the largest striking area ever on a CBX Wedge, plus the dynamic HydraZip face—designed to boost spin from any condition—these Wedges aren’t just forgiving, they’re darn fun to play.”

The HydraZip technology comprises face blasts formulated to create surface textures that maximize friction for improved spin consistency in wet or dry conditions.

In the CBX Full-Face 2 lineup, the four loft groupings (50°—52° and 54°—60°) receive different blast media and laser patterns. The lower lofts receive a less rough blast, while higher lofts receive a rougher blast and more laser lines for more consistent dry and wet spin performance across the course.

ZipCore is a new addition for CBX Full-Face 2 wedges. Cleveland’s proprietary, lightweight and low-density core technology, ZipCore, reduces vibrations. It also enhances the Center of Gravity and boosts MOI for increased feel, control, consistency and forgiveness.

The tech doesn’t stop there with UltiZip’s network of sharp, deep, and tightly spaced grooves enhancing spin characteristics for purer performance on every strike.

The Cleveland RTX Full-Face 2 wedge series clubs are equipped with the sharpest groove radii ever in a CBX Wedge, imparting more spin and more control into all your shots.
