Saturday night football will show two of the most storied franchises in the NFL battling it out for a spot in the NFC Championship Game. Two young QBs playing at an elite level go head to head, leading their high-powered offenses in what should be an entertaining feature game.

Who Plays on Saturday Night Football Tonight?

  • Teams: San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers
  • Location: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California

The No. 1 seed in the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers finally join the NFL playoffs party after getting a bye in the Wild Card Round.

They face the resurgent Green Bay Packers who entered the postseason as the No. 7 seed in the NFC. They played the Dallas Cowboys in Super Wild Card Weekend and surprisingly breezed past the No. 2 seed 48-32 in unexpectedly easy fashion.

Both teams are firing on all cylinders heading into the game, both having won seven of their last nine games. The 49ers lost two of their last three games, but they did rest their starters in Week 18 after locking up the No. 1 seed.

On the other hand, Green Bay has won four on the bounce and enters the Divisional Round full of confidence with Jordan Love under center.

Love has come on leaps and bounds in the back half of the season after having a rocky start. He replaced Aaron Rodgers as the face of the Packers this season, and it certainly looks like Green Bay has found another elite one.

The matchup will also see 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan come up against his old friend, Packers HC Matt LaFleur. The pair coached together multiple times throughout their NFL careers, first with Houston in 2008, then in Washington between 2010 and 2013, and also in Atlanta between 2015 and 2016.

Shanahan had high praise for how LaFleur has been able to guide Love through his first year as a starter. “Matt and I coached quarterbacks together for a while,” Shanahan said. “Just technique and certain things, and you can definitely see how he’s been coaching his guy. He’s done a hell of a job with him.”

The other quarterback in this game is San Francisco’s Brock Purdy, who played at a near-MVP level in 2023. He will get one of his favorite weapons, RB Christian McCaffrey, back for this game, and the high-octane offense is expected to kick into gear again in the postseason.

Weather has played a factor in several playoff games so far, and it is expected to again on Saturday night. While there won’t be snow storms in California, it is expected to be raining, and wind speeds of up to 18mph are also forecast.
