Wide Receivers of the Kansas City Chiefs Participate in Community Outreach Event

In an offseason as noteworthy for off-the-field controversies as much as being the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs put their best foot forward this weekend.

Untold millions of young people look up to these athletes – fairly or otherwise – as role models, and it is refreshing to see stars embrace this responsibility and give back to the community.

Harold R. Kuntz reported that Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Marquise Brown, and Mecole Hardman were seen Saturday morning at a youth football camp held at Central High School.

Rice spoke to youth at the gathering in the aftermath of an outstanding rookie season that saw him haul in 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns.

However, his offseason was beset with legal troubles surrounding a multi-vehicle accident in Texas in March that resulted in several criminal charges.

There was also a skirmish with a photographer at a Dallas nightclub, but the alleged victim apparently is not interested in pursuing charges.

Hardman is a welcome sight for Kansas City faithful after he re-signed with the club on a one-year deal on Thursday.

The Chiefs went all-in to shore up the noticeably thin receiving corps, signing Hardman, inking Brown to a similar one-year contract, and drafting Worthy.

It can only be seen as a great sign of team unity that this particular group showed up at Central High School on Saturday to share their wisdom and experience with youth pursuing a similar dream.

For Chiefs fans, it is encouraging that the offseason is fading into history and that another title defense is set to begin.
