The Warriors reportedly made a bid for LeBron James at the trade deadline but it was shot down, so will we ever get to see two of the greats join forces before they retire?
“The Warriors were eager to present a package deal to L.A., but neither the Lakers nor James were willing to explore a potential blockbuster,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne reported on Wednesday.
Many NBA fans would delight at the prospect of 39-year-old LeBron and 35-year-old Steph joining forces for the first time.
Yet, Yahoo Sports’ Ben Rohrbach provided a rather solemn outlook on the idea of LeBron and Steph on the same team.
“It’s all a distraction from what’s really going on: Neither are good enough to make it on their own anymore,” Rohrbach wrote. “The end of an era.”
And he’s not wrong.
Despite Curry and James’ output being immense and super impressive, both of their teams can barely make it above .500 and are struggling to keep their heads above water.
So, will the pairing ever happen?
LeBron is in his final year of his two-year, $97.1 million contract extension that includes a player option for 2024-25.
It is widely known that he will go to whichever team his son Bronny gets drafted to so they can play together and fulfill the prophecy.
Meanwhile, Curry signed a four-year, $215 million extension in 2021 and no doubt the Dubs will want to keep him a Warrior for life.
So, if the franchise wanted to throw the baby out with the bathwater and draft Bronny, while offloading players Chris Paul, Klay Thompson and Jonathan Kuminga, then yeah, we could see LeBron and Steph on the same team.
But at what cost to the Warriors’ future?
