Wolves Part Ways with Vítor Pereira After Disappointing Start to the Season
On November 2, 2025, Wolverhampton Wanderers have decided to part ways with Vítor Pereira, just weeks after he penned a new long-term contract with the club.
Pereira assumed control of Wolverhampton last December, leading them away from the relegation zone and ultimately achieving a 16th-place finish, which included a remarkable double victory over Manchester United.
This summer, Matheus Cunha joined United, but despite a challenging start to the new season, Pereira signed a contract extension on September 16. However, disappointing results continued, culminating in a 3-0 defeat against Fulham last Saturday that led to his dismissal.
Executive chairman Jeff Shi expressed gratitude towards Pereira, stating, “Vítor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves during a challenging period last season, for which we are thankful. Unfortunately, the start to this season has been disappointing, and we’ve reached a point where a change is necessary.”
Shi further thanked Pereira and his staff for their efforts and wished them success in the future.
Youth coaches James Collins and Richard Walker will oversee training temporarily as the club seeks a replacement for Pereira.
The team’s previous match against Burnley resulted in tensions between Pereira and the home fans following a 3-2 defeat. This was succeeded by the loss to Fulham, which Pereira labeled the worst showing in his 38 games at the helm.
Pereira’s time with Wolves has ended, and he is now looking for a new opportunity, preferably in the Premier League, according to reports. He was informed of his termination on Sunday morning but will not receive full compensation for the length of his contract due to a clause in the new deal.
The experienced Portuguese coach had considered his future after losing key players like Cunha and Rayan Aït-Nouri, who were replaced by those lacking Premier League experience. Despite these challenges, he aimed to build on past successes, having been nominated for Manager of the Season. However, late goals against teams like Tottenham and Brighton took a toll on team morale.
With the recent defeat at Fulham marking eight losses in ten league matches, Wolves moved quickly to dismiss Pereira as they prepare for an upcoming match against Chelsea.
In a farewell message on Instagram, Pereira reflected, “It has been a privilege to manage Wolverhampton Wanderers and to share unique moments with this club and its supporters. I thank the club’s owners for their trust, the players for their hard work and commitment, and all the staff for making me feel part of the family. I wish the club all the best for the remainder of the season.”
