Phil Parkinson celebrated a remarkable victory as Wrexham ended Coventry City’s unbeaten streak, the last remaining in the English Football League, with a thrilling 3-2 win at home on Friday.
Kieffer Moore achieved a flawless hat trick, scoring with his right foot, left foot, and head, leading Wrexham back from a first-half goal by Ephron Mason-Clark.
Moore’s performance marked his first hat trick since August 2018, which allowed Wrexham to establish a 3-1 lead before Tatsuhiro Sakamoto netted a late goal for Coventry.

“This is undoubtedly a statement game for us,” remarked Wrexham manager Parkinson. His team’s earlier Championship victories this season had come at home against Oxford and on the road against Millwall and Norwich.
“It’s a statement not for anyone else, but for ourselves. After the draw against Middlesbrough, I mentioned it should bolster our confidence, and I believe that has been evident in our recent performances.”
“This win is particularly satisfying as it was against a top-quality team.”
“Coventry’s statistics are impressive; they are excelling in all areas and have players in excellent form.”
This season, Moore has scored nine goals for Wrexham, helping lift the team to 11th place ahead of the weekend’s Championship matches.
“I remind everyone that our focus isn’t solely on stopping the opposition,” Parkinson stated, referencing their recent defeat to League One Cardiff in the Carabao Cup. “Our goal is to play in a disciplined fashion without the ball. I have unwavering faith in these players, and the quality of football we displayed was exceptionally high.”
“The crowd showed great support, applauding the team off at halftime, and you could feel that positive energy in the second half.”
“The players responded magnificently.”
Coventry had won their last six matches and were just shy of equaling a club record for consecutive league wins.
The Sky Blues remain ahead of Middlesbrough by three points, although Middlesbrough has a game in hand against Watford on Saturday.
“We let our standards slip a bit, and that can lead to a loss,” acknowledged Coventry manager Frank Lampard. “We must give credit to our opponents; they made it challenging for us. Even while leading 1-0 in the first half, we seemed off our game.”
“Matches like this can slip away quickly, a reality of football we experienced tonight. We need to recognize that if we drop our level, it can have consequences.”
