Gianluca Busio has signed a one-year contract extension with Italian club Venezia, keeping him with the Serie A side through June 2026. This announcement comes as the 22-year-old midfielder has been sidelined this season due to an ankle injury.
In an interview with the club, Busio expressed his happiness about the contract renewal, stating, “There have been ups and downs, but I am proud to be able to wear the VFC jersey for even longer.” He praised the ownership and Director Antonelli for their work and expressed his commitment to the team.
Busio joined Venezia in August 2021 for a reported transfer fee of $6.5 million and has since made a significant impact, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists in 99 appearances. He played a key role alongside Tanner Tessmann in helping Venezia secure promotion to Serie A through the playoffs last May.
Despite Tessmann’s move to Lyon, Busio remains a vital part of Eusebio Di Francesco’s squad. He also represented the USMNT Olympic squad in Paris this summer.
Currently winless in league play, Venezia is set to resume Serie A action on September 14 against AC Milan.
