Young tennis phenom Raducanu defies expectations with impressive performances and emerges as surprise pick for Wimbledon dark horse.

According to former WTA player Laura Robson, Emma Raducanu is playing well above her ranking and is a dark horse candidate at Wimbledon.

Raducanu is currently ranked outside the Top 100 on the WTA Tour, but her level is obviously far better than that. Growing up in Great Britain allowed Raducanu to learn how to play on grass from a very young age, and that’s going to be very useful this upcoming week when she steps onto the Wimbledon courts.

According to former player Robson, who follows fellow compatriot very closely, her level in recent weeks has been impressive. From Nottingham to Eastbourne, she was playing really well, so well in fact that Robson could see her do some damage at the Championships.

“I was super impressed with the way Emma and Katie Boulter played in Nottingham and we can be optimistic that both of them can do well at Wimbledon. They will both keep pushing each other along. Now I’m expecting Emma to have a good Wimbledon. She’s put the work in, been practising on grass for quite a few weeks now she is looking ready for it.”

Raducanu obviously has a Grand Slam already, and it happened when she simply caught fire at the US Open. Something like that can happen at Wimbledon as well. According to Robson, she will have fans backing her, and if all things click, she could go really far.

“Looking at her levels, she is clearly playing well above her ranking. She is already right up there with top players and that will be really nice for Emma to see.”

“She will know she is not far off and is in a lot better place than she was six months ago. So if I had to pick out a player to watch at Wimbledon in the women’s draw, it would be Emma.”
