Zverev Continues Dominant Run at Roland Garros Following Victory Over Nadal

Roland Garros title contender Alexander Zverev proved all his qualities against veteran David Goffin, beating him in straight sets.

Zverev defeated Rafael Nadal in the first round of this year’s Roland Garros to solidify himself as one of the potential winners of the clay-court major. He admitted that after the match, he wanted to focus on the event itself as the magnitude of that match was simply too much to really think beyond.

It makes sense because some thought Nadal could have won that match, but ultimately, the German proved too good. The same happened against Goffin, even though the first set was very competitive.

Both looked strong on the serve, but fans on the Court Suzanne-Lenglen didn’t really see any break in that opening set. It was settled in a tie-break, which Goffin opened with a 2-0 lead; however, he could not hold it.

When it mattered most, Zverev found his best tennis, which also happened against Nadal, and he won the tie-break 7-4. The second set was much easier for Zverev, who was cruising through his game and hitting the ball really well.

Goffin played about the same as he did in the first set but Zverev was much more accurate, especially on break chances. The final set wasn’t anything different.

Zverev was still the better player, and he showed it by breaking Goffin fairly early in that set, taking a 4-2 lead. From there, the German easily cruised to the finish line, keeping it in three straight sets, with the final score being 7-6(4), 6-2, 6-2.

It was a very good performance from the German, who keeps adding to his winning streak.
