Alexander Zverev is already into the fourth round of the 2024 Miami Open after overcoming the 31st-seeded Christopher Eubanks.
The German player knew he could face one of the seeded players in the round of 32 at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami, and he did, after Eubanks heroically saved match points against Daniel Evans.
The two took care of one of the more interesting third-round matches, but in the end, it was a one-way traffic, mostly because Zverev managed to play better in the crucial moments.
In the previous round, he outplayed Felix Auger-Aliassime, and he wanted to keep perfect score also against the American, but Eubanks presented some spirited challenge early on.
He had a break point in the sixth game, and even though that remained unused, he used his chance in the eighth game, serving for the set at 5-3.
Eubanks even had a 30-15 lead on his serve, but then he lost three consecutive points, losing his one-break advantage, with the set later being decided in the tie-break.
The world no. 5 didn’t let the opportunity slip between his fingers, as he won the tie-break 7-4 to win his third consecutive set at the 2024 Miami Open.
It was during the first set that the match was briefly suspended because of rain, but there were no interruptions in the second set, as Zverev started with an early break to lead 3-0, and cruised from there.
Once again, however, he didn’t avoid facing break points, as Eubanks had three when he was trying to serve out the match. Still, Zverev easily saved all of them, and nothing could prevent him from winning the match after that.
Zverev won in two sets 7-6(4), 6-3, setting up a fourth-round clash with the winner of the match between Karen Khachanov and Francisco Cerundolo.
