Reports from the Netherlands indicate that Ajax have approached struggling Liverpool manager Arne Slot as they seek a new permanent head coach.

This surprising news was shared by Mike Verweij from De Telegraaf, who stated that the Eredivisie team reached out to the 47-year-old, even though he is currently managing at Anfield.

During the Kick-off podcast, Verweij elaborated on the situation, confirming that Slot is focused on his long-term goals at Liverpool.

“I was informed that they also reached out to Arne Slot,” Verweij stated (quotes via Soccer News).

“Slot is firmly in position; he intends to stay at Liverpool. I gather that he is not particularly interested in taking the Ajax job at this stage of his career.”

Liverpool Stands by Arne Slot Despite Difficult Season

Ajax’s approach underscores a challenging situation at Anfield.

Liverpool has had a difficult 2025/26 season, recently suffering a 3-2 loss to Manchester United, which marks their 11th defeat in the league and positions them 18 points behind the top team, Arsenal.

Despite breaking a long-standing record for losses against both Manchester clubs within a single season, the Liverpool management reportedly continues to support their manager.

In contrast to Ajax’s chaotic coaching changes, as they seek their fourth permanent manager in three years, FSG appears committed to giving Slot time to resolve current issues.

Although he has lost some fan support, having led the team to a Premier League title merely 12 months ago seems to have provided him the leeway to orchestrate a rebuild next season.

For the time being, Ajax will need to consider other candidates, with Girona’s Míchel now seen as the frontrunner for the managerial role at Johan Cruyff Arena.
