Former Manchester United academy star Axel Tuanzebe has picked up an unfortunate freak injury off the field.
The Congolese footballer, who played 37 times for United, has made an impressive start to life back in the Premier League with Ipswich Town.
He has made six appearances so far this season, starting in every match he has played as Ipswich’s regular right back.
He was highly impressive in his side’s 0-0 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion last month and drew special praise from his manager Kieran McKenna.
He did miss his side’s latest match against West Ham United at the weekend due to a thumb injury and now looks like he will be out of action for a while longer.
The Athletic report that “Ipswich Town right-back Axel Tuanzebe is facing at least a month out after sustaining a hand injury while doing the washing up.”
His manager has already labelled the incident a “very unfortunate incident” and he had to have surgery on the issue.

The injury means that the defender will be sweating on his chances of facing his former side later in November.
The Red Devils are scheduled to travel to Portman Road on the 24th of November, with Tuanzebe a possible doubt for the fixture, depending on the speed of his recovery and re-integration into the first team again.
The former youth team captain is sadly no stranger to injury as he suffered immensely from various problems during his time at Old Trafford.
Already in his career he has picked up seven injuries but it is the length of these health issues which are the biggest problem.
Between July 2022 and January 2023 he missed 194 days due to an unknown injury and 123 days with an ankle injury in 2020.
Luckily the nature of this injury stems from a freak incident than a more serious muscular issue, so Tuanzebe will hope he can make a speedy recovery and continue cementing his place as Ipswich’s starting right back.
