Djokovic selected for Serbia’s Olympic team and remains optimistic for Wimbledon

Djokovic on Serbia's Olympic roster, still hopeful for Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic was included in Team Serbia’s lineup for the 2024 Paris Olympics despite recovering from a torn medial meniscus sustained at the French Open. The 37-year-old underwent arthroscopic surgery and aims to return to Roland Garros in late July for his first shot at a gold medal. Djokovic has previously played in and won the bronze-medal match in 2008, with runner-up finishes in 2012 and 2021.

Prior to the Olympics, Djokovic may also compete in Wimbledon, which begins in less than two weeks. American player Taylor Fritz, who experienced a similar injury at the 2021 French Open, was able to participate in Wimbledon weeks later, reaching the fourth round before losing to Alexander Zverev.

Fritz shared his experience with Djokovic, expressing that recovery depends on managing inflammation and individual reactions. Fritz emphasized the importance of reducing inflammation and maintaining strength post-surgery to be able to compete at a high level.

Despite the similarities in injury, Fritz noted that Djokovic’s goal at Wimbledon would be different from his experience as Djokovic aims to win the tournament. Djokovic, a seven-time champion at Wimbledon, will be looking to improve on his runner-up finish from the previous year.
