Paxten Aaronson has signed a multi-year contract extension with parent club Eintracht Frankfurt and will be heading back to the Dutch Eredivisie this season.
The Bundesliga side announced that Aaronson’s contract has been extended until June 2028 and he will be loaned to FC Utrecht for the 2024-25 league campaign.
Eintracht sporting director Timmo Hardung expressed his confidence in Aaronson’s potential, stating, “Paxten Aaronson has already shown promising approaches with us and hinted at the potential he has. As hoped, the loan to Vitesse Arnhem and the associated match practice gave him a boost. It’s important for him to keep at it and get playing time.”
Hardung continued, “In Utrecht, he has a good environment and a good club where he can take the next stage of development. We are totally convinced of Paxten and are sure that he will go his way with us in the Bundesliga after his time in Utrecht.”
Despite scoring four goals in 14 appearances for Vitesse Arnhem last season, Aaronson was unable to prevent the team from being relegated from the Eredivisie after an 18-point deduction.
Since transferring from the Philadelphia Union, Aaronson has made 22 combined appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt, registering three assists. However, he has mainly been used as a substitute option, accumulating only 542 minutes of playing time across all competitions.
The 20-year-old recently represented the U.S. men’s Olympic team and is aiming to secure a spot on Marko Mitrovic’s final roster for the upcoming trip to Paris in July.
FC Utrecht, where Aaronson will be playing on loan, already features another American player in Taylor Booth, who was part of the Olympic squad’s friendly match on June 11. The team finished seventh in the league table last season.
