Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo Face Backlash Following Chelsea's Disastrous Collapse Against Brighton & Hove Albionn

Chelsea’s Fernandez and Caicedo Criticized After Brighton Loss

Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo faced strong backlash for their disappointing performance in Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton on Tuesday night.

The midfield pair, who joined Chelsea for over £220 million, struggled to make an impact, allowing Brighton to dominate play at the American Express Stadium.

This latest loss marks a significant low for Chelsea, who have now gone five consecutive Premier League matches without scoring, their longest such streak since 1912.

Veteran commentator John Southall was particularly harsh in his analysis during the live broadcast. While Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, a target for Manchester United, controlled the game’s flow, Southall highlighted the evident disparity between the two teams.

He remarked (via BBC Sports Live): “When you consider the abilities of Fernandez and Caicedo and the investment made in them, they have been overshadowed tonight. Fernandez has had a terrible game, and his counterpart Baleba has been far superior.”

Caicedo’s return to his former club turned out to be especially disappointing; he was responsible for Brighton’s second goal, scored by Jack Hinshelwood, after losing the ball in a crucial area.

The home fans enjoyed the struggles of their former players, as Robert Sánchez and Marc Cucurella also faced a less than warm welcome.

Chelsea Struggles Persist as Champions League Hopes Fade

The 3-0 defeat leaves Liam Rosenior’s side in seventh place, now seven points behind the Champions League spots with only four matches left in the season.

After being eliminated from European competition by Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month, Chelsea’s domestic form has deteriorated significantly.

Goals from Ferdi Kadıoğlu, Hinshelwood, and Danny Welbeck secured the victory for Brighton, enabling them to move ahead of Chelsea into sixth place.

As they look forward to an FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley, hopes for a turnaround remain slim, especially with a squad that appears to lack confidence and a clear identity despite heavy investment.
