In a
hotly-anticipated match-up in the British Basketball League between the
Caledonia Gladiators and Cheshire Phoenix, the Gladiators seemed to be taking
the first scalp. The impressive start in the first quarter showed as such.
The Phoenix
were struggling mightily from the field, predominantly due to the Caledonia
defence, with Cheshire only shooting 6-for-18 from the field in the first
quarter.
Most of
their players were struggling, with Ethan Chargois, the only player to score at
least three points for the Phoenix, who had seven points in the first quarter.
Caledonia’s
all-around play was on display, going 5-for-7 from the three-point line while
also scoring 10 points in the paint.
Going into
the second quarter, the Gladiators had started to go into cruise control with
the score 25-17.
The second
quarter saw the Cheshire Phoenix wake up from their first quarter slumber, with
the Phoenix dominating and ultimately take the lead.
Maceo Jack sprang
to life with 11 points in the second quarter alone, while the Phoenix bench put
up 14 points total.
The
Gladiators saw themselves starting to struggle from the field after the hot
start in the first quarter. With their field goal percentage dropping from 47%
to 40%, Caledonia were getting defended incredibly well and needed a very good
team talk over half-time.
Cheshire were able to take over in the second quarter, outscoring the Gladiators 29-13 in the quarter, and ultimately taking the lead by the end of the first half, with the score at 46-38 to the Phoenix.
Second Half
The third
quarter seemed to be following the script that we saw in the second quarter,
with the Phoenix still holding an impressive lead over the in-form Gladiators.
Lukas
Palyza and Ian DuBose were able to get into double-digit points, with both players
combining for 13 points in the third quarter.
LaQuincy
Rideau however, showed his amazing floor general abilities, showing the
Gladiators his quality of scoring and dishing out assists. Rideau had 10 points
and seven assists at the end of the third quarter.
The Phoenix
were cruising along, and seeming to be taking the win, with Cheshire ahead
67-60 by the end of the third quarter.
The fourth
quarter unfortunately followed suit, with the Phoenix continuing to play their
system and keep up their lead.
After a mild scare in the waning moments, the Cheshire Phoenix were able to grab the win on the road against the Caledonia Gladiators, winning 92-83.
