In a highly-anticipated
game in the British Basketball League, the Newcastle Eagles took the early lead
with a hot first-quarter start.
One of the
most hyped players in pre-season, Tajh Green, started the game off well for the
Eagles, with 14 points by his name by the end of the first quarter. The forward
went a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and made an astonishing three three-pointers.
Gabe Olaseni
was trying to stop the bleeding for the Lions with nine points of his own, but
the Lions were struggling to get their offence going. With only five Lions
scoring in the first quarter and Olaseni being the only player with at least
three points.
Going into
the second quarter, Newcastle took an astonishing lead and dominated, scoring 32-19.
The second
quarter followed suit with the London Lions still behind against a rampant
Newcastle Eagles.
Green was a
man-possessed in the first half, scoring insanely while still staying perfect
from the field. The forward was thriving, while Josh-Ward Hibbert continued his
form off the bench with 13 points by the end of the first half.
The Lions
couldn’t keep up with Green and Ward-Hibbert as London struggled even more, only
taking 10 shots in the quarter and scoring 15 points.
The Eagles were simply too good in the first half and took an insane 62-34 lead going into the second half.
Second Half
The second
half saw a much closer game with both teams scoring similarly throughout. With
both teams scoring over 20 points each, Newcastle scoring 22, while London
scored 21 points.
The likes
of Matt Morgan and Kareem Queeley woke up to score more for the Lions with a
combined 17 points between them by the end of the third quarter.
Jordan
Johnson had been lighting it up once again for the Eagles with 22 points on 8-of-14
shooting from the field, continuing his great performances, and starting to
garner MVP shouts.
The third
quarter saw a better London Lions side, but not enough to catch the Eagles,
with Newcastle still ahead 84-55.
The fourth
quarter ended up becoming a time for coasting for the Newcastle Eagles after
entering the quarter with an incredible lead.
London were
able to outscore Newcastle in the fourth quarter, but it was all for naught
with the Newcastle Eagles taking the huge win, and giving the London Lions
their second loss of the season.
The Newcastle Eagles win 102-80.
Player of the Game
Tonight’s Player of the Game was Jordan Johnson of the Newcastle Eagles. Johnson was a man on fire tonight with 25 points and six assists.
Team | Name | Points | Rebounds | Assists |
