The San Francisco 49ers have a complicated salary cap situation looming at multiple positions, as they’ll have to pay quarterback Brock Purdy a massive deal soon in addition to one of his favorite targets heading into a contract year.

Brandon Aiyuk led the team with 75 catches for 1,342 yards last season and despite heading into his fifth-year option, general manager John Lynch has once again reiterated his take on the current situation regarding their star wideout.

There were mixed reports about Aiyuk requesting a trade in recent weeks, but The Pat McAfee shared a clip of a recent press conference where Lynch said, “I’ve communicated on many occasions our wish, and our wish is that he’s here and part of the Niners for the rest of his career. We’re working through that.”

Lynch added he’s not going to speak for Aiyuk’s side, but said that they’re having good talks and said he’ll “leave it at that.”

It was a perfect response for Lynch, as he didn’t add any fuel to the fire and didn’t throw his player under the bus.

He simply handled the question maturely, spoke highly of his star receiver, and threw a blanket on the fire to shift focus toward the draft.

San Francisco’s cap space is minimal going forward and there will undoubtedly be tough decisions to make, but keeping Aiyuk should be an easy one.

Many fanbases are clamoring for Aiyuk to hit the trade market before the draft starts on Thursday, but it doesn’t sound like that wish will come to fruition.
