After years and years of disappointment, the Detroit Lions are finally a team with a bright future ahead, as head coach Dan Campbell has been able to get this lowly NFL franchise back on track and ready to compete for the foreseeable future.

The Lions are coming off perhaps the franchise’s best year ever, with Detroit living up to expectations and making it all the way to the NFC Championship Game.

Even though Jared Goff and company ultimately fell short to the San Francisco 49ers, the Lions have a lot of promise to be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come if the team can keep the squad relatively intact while adding some important pieces to the championship puzzle.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that veteran safety Tracy Walker is part of the team’s long-term plans, with the Lions releasing him on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Jeremey Fowler.

In the 17 games Walker played during the regular season, the 29-year-old safety recorded a sack, two passes defensed, a forced fumble, and 42 solo tackles.

Walker played six seasons for the Lions and now will try his luck on the open market with hopes of landing another job in the NFL.

As for Detroit, Campbell and company will likely be active during the NFL offseason, trying to upgrade the roster in hopes of getting to the Super Bowl next season and remaining competitive for many years to come.

The Lions upgrading the defensive side of the football will likely be the team’s top priority during the offseason.
