Liverpool Intensifies Search for Mohamed Salah’s Replacement
Liverpool is actively pursuing candidates to fill the void left by Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian forward has confirmed his intention to depart from the club at the season’s conclusion, presenting a significant challenge for the team as they seek to replace one of their most iconic players in recent history.
As reported by L’Équipe, the club is preparing a €50 million bid for AS Monaco’s talented playmaker, Maghnes Akliouche.
Liverpool aims to overhaul its squad significantly this summer, with a variety of attacking and defensive signings anticipated following a disappointing campaign.
Liverpool’s Strategy for Replacing Salah
Acquiring the 24-year-old French international is not just about finding a replacement for Salah on the right side; it’s also seen as a crucial effort to restore much-needed technical skill within the squad.
Finding an exact substitute for a prolific player like Salah is an impossible feat, a reality that Liverpool’s scouting department appears to recognize.
Instead of pursuing a straightforward winger who relies solely on speed, the Reds are targeting Akliouche due to his impressive tactical awareness and creativity.
Primarily stationed on the right, Akliouche excels at maneuvering into central areas, facilitating the connection between midfield and attack, and creating numerical advantages through swift passing sequences.
This season, his outstanding performance has been evident, acting as the key architect for Monaco, tallying seven goals and eleven assists across 41 matches in all competitions, consistently shining in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
Reds Compete for Akliouche’s Signature
Last summer, Monaco was firm on their €70 million asking price, deterring interest from clubs like Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur; however, Akliouche allegedly declined a potential transfer to Spurs regardless.
Now, with Monaco reportedly ready to consider offers around €50 million, the opportunity for a transfer has emerged, encouraging Liverpool to act.
Nevertheless, Liverpool is not the only team eyeing Akliouche. Paris Saint-Germain, the current champions of France, have maintained a strong interest in the midfielder, viewing him as an ideal fit to enhance their squad.
There are also suggestions that Liverpool might consider a dual approach, keeping an eye on Akliouche’s highly regarded teammate, Lamine Camara, amid expected player exits.
