Liverpool Eyeing Mateus Fernandes Transfer from West Ham
Liverpool is reportedly among the clubs showing interest in West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
The talented Portugal international has enjoyed an impressive season despite West Ham’s struggles, as the team finds itself potentially facing relegation to the Championship.
West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo praised Fernandes, stating, “He’s having a fantastic season; he works hard and is very talented and disciplined. I hope he returns well for our important game on Sunday.”
Previously, it was noted that Liverpool is interested in signing Fernandes, while reports from Arsenal also indicate interest, according to The Times.
Now, a report from TEAMtalk includes Liverpool and Manchester United’s interest, adding that West Ham could expect to receive up to £70 million from a potential transfer of the 21-year-old this summer.
What’s Next for Mateus Fernandes?
Retaining a player with Fernandes’ talents may prove challenging for West Ham, regardless of whether they avoid relegation.
Rumors linking him to clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United are not surprising, as he seems to fit well with any of them.
Arsenal, in particular, may be in need of additional options in midfield, but it remains uncertain if Fernandes would secure a starting spot at the Emirates Stadium given the competition from Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi.
Liverpool could present a more suitable option, especially as they might consider replacing the out-of-form Alexis Mac Allister this summer to refresh their midfield.
Manchester United might also offer Fernandes significant playing time, particularly as Casemiro is set to depart at the end of his contract, and Manuel Ugarte has struggled to find his form.
However, Fernandes must also weigh the current trajectories of these clubs; Liverpool has faced a tough season at Anfield, while Arsenal’s project appears promising and Manchester United seems to be improving after several challenging years.
