Igor Thiago has made a significant impact since his arrival at Brentford, drawing attention from both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
As reported by TEAMtalk, the Brazilian forward is a potential target for a transfer at the end of the current season, prompting Brentford to consider alternatives. They are eyeing Matviy Ponomarenko as a possible replacement this summer, but it is unclear if they are willing to let Thiago leave.
Moreover, Manchester United has also expressed interest in Thiago.
Chelsea’s Striker Search
This season, Thiago has scored 24 goals in 35 matches and is also being pursued by clubs such as Newcastle United and Manchester City.
Chelsea is in urgent need of a high-caliber striker, as Liam Delap has managed only two goals this season. The club recognizes that an upgrade is necessary, and Thiago could be a valuable addition, potentially forming a strong attacking duo with compatriot Joao Pedro.
Tottenham’s Ambitions
On the other hand, Tottenham is also looking to bolster its attack, with Dominic Solanke struggling for goals this season. Thiago’s familiarity with the Premier League could allow him to make an immediate impact. However, sustaining their Premier League status is essential for Tottenham, as Thiago would likely refuse to join a club facing relegation.
Thiago remains under contract with Brentford, and a substantial transfer fee can be expected. It is uncertain if either Chelsea or Tottenham is ready to meet that demand for a player who could significantly enhance their offensive capabilities.
