Manchester United have received a major lift in their pursuit of Newcastle chief Dan Ashworth, with his employers now reportedly willing to compromise on the compensation fee they wanted before parting ways with him.

Ashworth has been on gardening leave since February when Newcastle placed him after he informed them of his wish to leave St James’ Park in favor of joining Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s new United project.

The Magpies were angered by United’s approach for the 53-year-old, which clearly unsettled him. Negotiations have been held between the two sides, but nothing has materialized. It has been stated that Eddie Howe’s side wants an unrealistic £20 million compensation package to let their executive circumvent his notice period and start work at Old Trafford immediately.

Meanwhile, Ratcliffe and INEOS have made it clear they will not pay such a ludicrous amount and are willing to wait as long as necessary to land their main man.

Ratcliffe held talks with Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley in an attempt to find a solution to the problem, but it seems the dialogue was unproductive.

A recent report from David Ornstein, covered by The Peoples Person, relayed that Ashworth was set to take the Tyneside outfit to arbitration to facilitate his switch to United due to his strong desire to join Erik ten Hag’s set-up.

However, a recent update from Football Insider has revealed renewed hope that a deal for Ashworth can be completed in the coming weeks. Sources indicated that negotiations are ongoing between both sides, and Newcastle is likely to compromise amid demands reaching £20 million.

Ashworth is poised to take charge of recruitment affairs at United, with new technical director Jason Wilcox working under him.
