Rasmus Hojlund Joins Napoli Following Champions League Qualification

Rasmus Hojlund’s permanent transfer to Napoli has been activated after the club secured a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Napoli clinched their place in Europe’s elite competition with a convincing win over Pisa, confirming their position in the Serie A top four under the management of Antonio Conte.

As per the terms of the loan agreement made last August, Napoli had a conditional obligation to sign the Danish forward permanently once they achieved qualification for the Champions League.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that the Napoli management is “very pleased” with Hojlund’s contributions and wasted no time in solidifying his long-term association with the club.

Napoli have activated the €44 million buy clause to make Rasmus Hojlund’s transfer from Manchester United permanent.

Everything is finalized with the Champions League qualification, as Napoli is very satisfied with Hojlund. Manchester United will receive a total of €50 million: €44 million obligation and €6 million loan fee from last August.

Hojlund Leaves Manchester United to Join Napoli

This move means Manchester United will secure a guaranteed transfer fee of €44 million (£38 million).

This figure is in addition to the €6 million loan fee Napoli paid initially, bringing the overall amount received by the Premier League team to €50 million.

Hojlund has revitalized his career in Italy, scoring 15 goals in 43 matches this season.

He contributed significantly to Napoli’s qualification celebrations, assisting Scott McTominay for the opening goal and scoring in injury time to finalize the victory.

Hojlund’s Difficult Tenure at Manchester United

While Napoli fans revel in their successful acquisition, Hojlund’s departure signifies a rocky period for the forward during his time at Manchester United.

His stint with United has been deemed a failure from both financial and sporting standpoints, as the club originally invested an initial €75 million plus €10 million in add-ons when signing him from Atalanta in 2023.

Rasmus Hojlund Stats Games Goals + Assists
Atalanta 2022/23 34 10
Manchester United 2023/24 43 16
Manchester United 2024/25 52 10
Napoli 2025/26 43 15

The 23-year-old faced challenges in maintaining consistent performance in England and soon dropped down the selection list.

United now have to accept a notable financial loss on their initial investment, but offloading his salary opens up crucial space for a squad rebuild this summer under their new head coach, which could very well be Michael Carrick after his impressive stint as interim manager.
