Roy Keane has criticized Andy Robertson for his “dreadful” performance during Manchester United’s commanding win over Liverpool at Old Trafford.
As United went into halftime leading 2-0, the Sky Sports analyst did not hold back in his criticism of the Liverpool defense, describing them as resembling “a bad five-a-side team.”
Keane Analyzes Liverpool’s First Half Struggles
The opening half was characterized by Manchester United’s aggressive intensity and precise finishing.
Matheus Cunha netted the first goal merely six minutes into the match, followed shortly by a contentious goal from Benjamin Šeško at the 14-minute mark, which stood after a VAR review for a potential handball.
Despite Liverpool’s complaints regarding the decision, Keane argued that manager Arne Slot should instead focus on his team’s lack of poise.
“[Slot] may be upset about the handball call, but he should be even more concerned about his players,” Keane stated. “They looked terrified. They started slowly and conceded two goals. Robertson’s positioning led to him being outmaneuvered at the back post. It has been really poor.”
He added, “Liverpool resemble a disorganized five-a-side team, and not a good one at that. They lack athleticism and frequently lose possession. It looks like Manchester United can score almost every time they attack.”
Liverpool’s Season Continues to Struggle
This season has been disappointing for the Reds, despite investing nearly half a billion in new players.
While some may argue the club is undergoing a transitional phase, the underlying issues appear to be more significant, with the culture and mentality instilled by Klopp seemingly deteriorating.
Liverpool has 45 minutes to rectify this poor showing. Slot must quickly implement changes or face the prospect of a humiliating defeat as the defending champions.
