Sinner Achieves Masters 1000 Sweep with Victory in Rome

Jannik Sinner has solidified his place in tennis history with an impressive triumph at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Sunday, becoming the second player ever, following Novak Djokovic, to claim victory in all nine ATP Masters 1000 events. Facing off against Casper Ruud in the final, Sinner showcased his talent and determination, securing a straight-sets win with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-4. This landmark achievement took place at the Foro Italico, where he embraced the home crowd after one hour and 45 minutes of intense competition.

The 24-year-old Italian also made history as the first male competitor from Italy to lift the Rome trophy since Adriano Panatta accomplished the feat back in 1976. Reflecting on the significance of his win, Sinner remarked, “This year marks the 50th anniversary of an Italian victory here. There was a lot of tension on both sides. It wasn’t perfect tennis from either of us, but I’m incredibly happy. The last couple of months have been phenomenal.”

Sinner’s victory in Rome adds to an extraordinary run of six consecutive Masters 1000 titles dating back to the previous fall, including all five events of this season: Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid, and now Rome. He expressed heartfelt gratitude towards his support team, highlighting the importance of their role in maintaining his physical condition throughout such a demanding schedule. “It was physically demanding; very tough. I owe a big thanks to my physio and physical trainer. They are with me all year round, keeping my body in check, which is just as vital as my tennis coaches.”

As the ATP Tour looks ahead, players will transition to events in Hamburg and Geneva next week, gearing up for the highly anticipated French Open set to commence on Sunday.
