Wayne Rooney, the iconic former player of Manchester United, has expressed his belief that Arsenal will secure the Premier League championship, despite the increasing pressure from Manchester City and a challenging series of upcoming matches.

Rooney’s remarks arrive at a pivotal point in the ongoing 2025/26 season. Arsenal, who have been at the top of the standings for much of the year, are currently experiencing a decline in performance, with just one victory in their last five matches across all competitions, including three losses and one draw.

The Gunners faced disappointments in cup tournaments as well, suffering a 2-1 defeat against Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals, followed by a 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the League Cup final. Furthermore, they encountered a significant setback in the league with a 2-1 home loss to Bournemouth.

Rooney Supports Arsenal’s Title Aspirations

In an interview with Amazon Prime Video Sport prior to the highly anticipated matchup against Manchester City, Rooney noted that while the momentum has shifted toward City, he still believes Mikel Arteta’s team can claim victory.

Rooney stated, “This is undoubtedly a crucial game for both teams. I still have faith that Arsenal will prevail. Manchester City needs to achieve perfect results from now on. Arsenal can afford a draw in this match, but I believe they will just edge it.”

The Title Contest Could Go Down to the Wire

The race for the Premier League title is heating up. Currently, Arsenal sits six points ahead of Manchester City but has played one more match than Guardiola’s team.

Team Key Remaining Fixtures
Arsenal Manchester City (A), Newcastle (H), Fulham (H), West Ham (A), Burnley (H), Crystal Palace (A)
Manchester City Arsenal (H), Burnley (A), Everton (A), Brentford (H), Bournemouth (A), Crystal Palace (H), Aston Villa (H)

Out of the two contenders, Arsenal appears to have the more manageable set of fixtures and should be able to maintain their lead if they can secure at least a draw against City. Conversely, Manchester City must win all their remaining matches to keep their hopes alive for the title.
