West Ham United Could Secure £70m from Mateus Fernandes Sale
According to a transfer expert, West Ham United may receive as much as £70 million by selling Mateus Fernandes to Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The Hammers are likely to experience a series of significant departures from the London Stadium following their relegation from the Premier League, with players like Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville rumored to be leaving.
The Portuguese midfielder is now a potential candidate for a lucrative transfer, as Manchester United is reportedly showing interest in the 21-year-old, though they could face competition from other clubs in Europe.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness believes Fernandes could command a substantial fee, suggesting that a competitive bidding war could push the price to around £70 million. He indicated that PSG would be a particularly appealing option for Fernandes, but noted that Premier League clubs might also consider meeting that asking price.
He mentioned on the Football Insider podcast: “I expect a deal with PSG could happen quickly, likely announced soon within the transfer window.”
West Ham Set to Gain from Fernandes’ Potential Transfer
Despite West Ham’s decision to keep Nuno Espírito Santo as manager, which adds a degree of stability as they head into the Championship, it’s anticipated that several top players will leave this summer.
Fernandes is one of those players, and the West Ham manager praised the midfielder’s outstanding season even amid the team’s relegation struggles. His recent inclusion in the Portuguese national squad speaks to his considerable talent.
The Irons paid just over £40 million for Fernandes from Southampton last August, and given his impressive performances since then, they are likely to secure a significant profit should he move on this summer.
In anticipation of his potential departure, West Ham appears to be preparing by working towards an agreement for Metz midfielder Alpha Toure, who could be available for around £6 million.
Although losing Fernandes would be a setback, the club should be able to command a substantial fee, particularly if PSG’s interest becomes concrete.n
