Zimonjic Suggests Possibility of Djokovic Ending their Coaching Partnership

Nenad Zimonjic recently disclosed his role as part of Novak Djokovic’s coaching team while Djokovic searches for a full-time coach.

Djokovic’s backroom team has gone through significant changes, with only a few familiar faces remaining such as Carlo Gomez-Herrera and physiotherapists Miljan Amanovic and Claudio Zimagila.

Gomez Herrera is now the interim business agent, taking over from Edoardo Artaldi and Elena Cappellaro. The duo parted ways with Djokovic after the US Open last year.

Djokovic recently split from his coach Goran Ivanisevic after a loss at Indian Wells, a decision that was not entirely unexpected.

Another key member of Djokovic’s team, physio Marco Panichi, also departed, leading to Zimonjic being appointed to provide mentorship and coaching without directly replacing Ivanisevic.

Zimonjic, a former ATP doubles No. 1, joined forces with Djokovic after their successful partnership in the Davis Cup-winning Serbian team in 2010.

“Novak (Djokovic) asked me: ‘Can you be there for the training sessions, for the matches?’ Because I know him very well.”

Zimonjic has been overseeing Djokovic’s training sessions and was present at the Monte-Carlo Masters, showing his commitment to the role.

Djokovic mentioned the possibility of coaching himself in the future, indicating uncertainty about the long-term coaching setup with Zimonjic.

“On the other hand, he is someone who has tremendous respect for me and knows how much I know. I’m glad that I was able to help, and it was a great experience for me.”
